AutoCAD 3D

Course Purpose:

AutoCAD Skills Assessment course provides students with a broad introduction into 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) Computer-Aided Design (CAD) modeling with a focus on both basic and advanced commands. Students learn how to transition from 2D design into 3D design by using materials of less than perfect information purposely provided to simulate “real-life” design conflict scenarios. Upon course completion, students will have an in depth understanding of 3D CAD User Coordinate System (UCS) and how to create3D objects for industrial production use from issued 2D drawings.

Course Description:

Students selected for the course have 2D CAD background experience. Students may need a CAD refresher or an opportunity to enhance 3D design skills in order to advance into the Marine Design course. This course is used to discover and capitalize on the student’s abilities for a focused outcome and understanding for 3D design and its’ many uses in industry.

Applications Covered:

  • 3D Base material: Learning to interpret 2D Drawings used to create 3D shapes.
  • 3D Solid Modeling: Extruding basic 2D shapes and advancing into 3D complex shape modifications.
  • Layer Control: Layer management practices for complex shape components.
  • UCS Coordinate System: Understanding and using the UCS coordinate system and applying it in the 2D and 3D design world.
